The 7th Grade English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that develops students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language skills. The teacher creates a supportive and engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, effective communication, and academic growth while preparing students to meet the expectations of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for English Language Arts.
  • Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, vocabulary development, writing, grammar, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Utilize evidence-based instructional practices to improve student literacy achievement.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, linguistic, and social-emotional needs of students.
  • Integrate technology and digital literacy skills into classroom instruction.
  • Promote critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication through a variety of instructional strategies.
  • Incorporate culturally responsive teaching practices and diverse texts into instruction.

Assessment and Data Analysis

  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify student strengths and areas for growth.
  • Use student performance data to inform instructional planning and interventions.
  • Prepare students for district and state-required assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement.

Classroom Environment and Student Support

  • Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote student engagement and responsibility.
  • Foster positive relationships with students and support their academic and social-emotional development.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students regarding their academic progress.

Family and Community Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and concerns.
  • Participate in parent conferences and school events.
  • Collaborate with families to support student success and literacy development.

Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with grade-level and content-area teams to plan instruction and analyze student data.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Work collaboratively with Exceptional Children (EC), English Learner (EL), intervention, and support staff to meet student needs.
  • Maintain compliance with district policies, state regulations, and professional standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of middle school literacy development and adolescent learning.
  • Strong understanding of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for English Language Arts.
  • Ability to develop engaging lessons that promote reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use assessment data to drive instructional decisions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and digital learning platforms.
