About Our Organization:
Orthopaedics East & Sports Medicine Center is Eastern North Carolina's premier orthopedic specialty practice, headquartered in Greenville. Our orthopedic surgeons — most of whom are fellowship-trained — along with our physician assistants, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, provide a variety of general and specialized operative and non-operative orthopedic services to meet the musculoskeletal needs of patients across Eastern North Carolina. Services include joint replacement, sports medicine, pediatric orthopedics, worker's compensation care, fracture care, regenerative medicine, bracing and casting, physical therapy, and on-site X-ray and MRI imaging. We have served as the preferred providers of orthopedic care for East Carolina University Athletics for more than 30 years.

The MRI Technologist Assistant supports daily MRI department operations in an outpatient orthopaedic setting, including patient preparation, basic patient care, scheduling coordination, and administrative support in ModMed. This position is essential to maintaining efficient workflow, accurate documentation, and a positive patient experience while supporting ACR accreditation standards.
This position requires compliance with OrthoEast's compliance standards, including its Code of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element required as part of the job duties and considered during performance evaluations.
Employment begins with a 90-day probationary period, during which performance, attendance, and suitability for the position are evaluated. Completion of the probationary period does not change the at-will nature of employment, which may be ended by either the employee or the Practice at any time, with or without cause or notice.
Scheduling and Administrative Support
- Coordinate MRI scheduling, including in-house exams and "return after test" follow-up appointments.
- Manage incoming calls and patient inquiries for the MRI department.
- Verify patient information and ensure required documentation is complete prior to imaging.
- Create patient visits in ModMed, upload Radsource MRI reports promptly, and enter MRI charges accurately.
Patient Preparation and Care
- Prepare patients for MRI exams by completing screening forms and ensuring removal of personal items, jewelry, and clothing as appropriate.
- Provide basic patient care by explaining the MRI process and supporting patient comfort and understanding.
- Assist MRI technologists with patient positioning and preparation, including providing ear plugs and comfort items.
- Assist technologists during contrast injections as directed.
Department Support
- Maintain MRI suite readiness by stocking supplies, organizing exam rooms, and supporting general department needs.
- Communicate effectively with technologists, providers, and clinical staff to support patient flow and workflow efficiency.
- Complete Imaging department tasks within ModMed.
Compliance and Accreditation
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards.
- Support adherence to ACR accreditation standards through proper patient screening, preparation, documentation, and workflow accuracy.
Additional Duties
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support MRI and clinic operations.
Work Environment
This is an on-site role at the Practice's Greenville, North Carolina clinic, working within the Imaging department in support of MRI operations. Work is performed in and around the MRI suite and at a workstation, and involves direct, hands-on patient contact during screening, preparation, and positioning, along with regular coordination with MRI technologists, providers, and clinical staff. The role requires strict adherence to MRI safety screening procedures and the ability to receive and respond to detailed verbal and written instructions.

Education and Experience
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Accuracy and timeliness in scheduling, documentation, and charge entry.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in patient screening and safety preparation.
- Professional, patient-centered communication at all times.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team with technologists and clinical staff.
- Ability to maintain smooth patient flow in a busy outpatient setting while supporting ACR standards.
- CPR certification.
Preferred:
- Healthcare-related training.
- Previous experience in a medical office, imaging, or orthopaedic setting.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
