Position Summary:
The Radiology Support Specialist plays a key administrative and operational role in the Imaging Department, working closely with MRI Technologists, patients, and clinical staff to ensure seamless coordination of imaging services. This position ensures efficient patient flow, accurate scheduling, proper documentation, and excellent patient communication. This position requires compliance with OrthoEast’s compliance standards, including its Code of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element required as part of the job duties and considered during performance evaluations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome and check in patients for radiology services; confirm identity, procedure details, and timing.
- Coordinate imaging schedules, confirm appointments, and communicate any changes to patients and technologists.
- Pre-screen patients for MRI safety using provided protocols; escalate any contraindications to MRI Technologists.
- Maintain accurate and timely records in PACS and EMR systems; scan orders and documentation as required.
- Assist with obtaining insurance authorizations or referrals prior to imaging appointments when necessary.
- Ensure MRI suite readiness by preparing patient forms, checking supplies, and keeping common areas organized.
- Facilitate patient transport to and from the imaging area, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Collaborate with radiology, front office, and clinical staff to resolve scheduling conflicts or documentation issues.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold all HIPAA regulations in handling patient information.
- Assist with follow-up tasks, including sending reports to referring providers and rescheduling no-show patients.
- Other Duties as Assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in healthcare or medical administration preferred.
- 1+ years of experience in a medical office or radiology support setting preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems (e.g., ModMed, Epic, or similar) and PACS is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills and ability to multitask in a busy clinical environment.
- Compassionate and professional demeanor when interacting with patients and staff.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology, particularly radiology-related, is a plus.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and move throughout the clinic.
- May occasionally assist with patient movement (non-clinical) or equipment handling.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, patient-facing healthcare environment.
