Position Overview:

The Vice President of Business Recruitment serves as a key leader within the Invest Greenville team. This position is responsible for driving business attraction, leading complex projects, and advancing strategic initiatives that strengthen Greenville–Pitt County’s competitive position. This role leads recruitment in target industries, manages high-priority and cross-sector special projects, and coordinates partners to align resources and users, resulting in job creation and capital investment. They will operate with a market‑driven, stakeholder-first mindset and play a key role in translating strategy into measurable outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in economic development, business recruitment, business development, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex projects involving multiple public and private stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to senior executives, elected officials, boards, and community leaders.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce) and standard business software.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Valid driver’s license; passport required or ability to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience working with economic development projects, site selection consultants, and national or international prospects.
  • Familiarity with downtown development dynamics, adaptive reuse, or special economic development initiatives.
  • CEcD or continuous pursuit of ED professional development

Core Responsibilities:

Business Recruitment & Investment Attraction

  • Lead Invest Greenville’s efforts to attract new businesses and investment that are aligned with the organization’s strategic plan and target industries.
  • Serve as the primary project owner for business recruitment prospects. Manages stakeholder coordination, timelines, and confidentiality.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with site location consultants, commercial real estate brokers, developers, and corporate decision‑makers.
  • Direct prospect generation activities, including targeted outreach, marketing initiatives, and strategic travel.
  • Partner with internal research, marketing, and operations staff to package Greenville–Pitt County’s assets as competitive, market‑ready solutions.
  • Manages all aspects of the project pipeline including process development, management, and tracking
  • Utilizes Salesforce (CRM/database) for project and lead management as well as for regular reporting to the President/Board.
  • Responsible for review or oversight of all RFP/RFI submissions and process.

Special Projects

  • Provide leadership and project management for designated “special projects,” defined as complex or catalytic initiatives that support community progress, produce economic benefits, real estate activation, or strategic business attraction.
  • Coordinate partners and stakeholders around downtown and/or non‑traditional employment focused projects, including amenity-based and mixed‑use opportunities.
  • Align business demand with emerging or underutilized sites and buildings to advance priority projects.


Strategy, Leadership & Team Collaboration

  • Closely engage with staff focused on business development, research, and community marketing activities.
  • Foster strong cross‑departmental collaboration to ensure recruitment, marketing, talent, and research efforts are aligned and mutually reinforcing.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, performance measurement, and continuous improvement of recruitment and project management processes.
  • Represent Invest Greenville at industry events, professional associations, and official functions as directed by the President & CEO.


Travel:
Frequent local, state, and national travel; occasional international travel

Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.

  • Successfully manage strategic projects from concept through execution by aligning partners and resources.
