Job Description

Position Summary

Perform a variety of tasks associated with installation, maintenance, and repair of diagnostic, therapeutic, and life-support clinical equipment. Specialists may pursue tracks: Senior Technician (generalist project lead), Specialty Technician (subject matter expert), and Team Leader (front-line leadership).

Responsibilities

Consistently perform routine, complex, and specialized tasks across diverse clinical systems, including life-support equipment.

Specialize on designated equipment/systems with required training/certification; serve as expert resource to clinical staff (including patient interface questions).

Coordinate inspection and installation of incoming equipment; assist with technical specifications for purchases.

Coordinate work by vendors/service contractors (maintenance, calibration, installation); verify service documentation.

Conduct departmental training on safe operation and maintenance; mentor BMET I/II.

Independently plan and manage routine and complex projects; communicate with construction and clinical departments.

Example devices: intra-aortic balloon pumps, LVADs, complex monitoring (network architecture), anesthesia, dialysis, sterilization.

Approve/disapprove PTO; monitor PM/CM completion to standards and technician productivity.

Assign/reassign work and monthly PMs; collaborate across departments to resolve issues and improve workflows.

Assist with competency assessments; monitor workspace cleanliness, infection control, and PPE adherence.

Ensure parts are received and recorded accurately; monitor parts ordering process; assist in validating inspection procedures.

Help develop departmental training plans; provide performance input; complete other projects as assigned.

Execute specialized diagnostics and repairs; manage installations and complex integrations.

Develop and deliver training; maintain accurate service records, network diagrams, and acceptance test documentation.

Coordinate team workload (Team Leader); ensure compliance with ECU Health policies and regulatory standards.

Minimum Requirements

Required Qualifications

Education:

Associate's degree in Electronics, Biomedical Equipment Technology, similar field or military equivalent (two-year vocational training may substitute).

10 years of Bio-Medical experience can substitute for the Associate's degree.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years as a Biomedical Equipment Technician or 3 years and a CBET/CLES certification.

Licensure/Certifications:

Valid North Carolina driver's license; qualify as candidate for CBET or CLES (AAMI).


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

All BMET III KSAs plus advanced codes/standards/compliance knowledge and safety practices.

IT Networking (Expert): Design and implement network integration plans for specialty equipment; proficiency with monitoring tools (e.g., syslog/SIEM, SNMP); partner with IT security on segmentation, NAC, and vulnerability mitigation; support remote service solutions in accordance with ECU Health policies.

Data Integrity & Compliance (Expert): Lead cybersecurity and data integrity risk assessments for connected medical devices; ensure adherence to ECU Health data governance frameworks and HIPAA; maintain audit-ready documentation for projects and device fleets.

Pay Range

$28.58 - $41.66

Shift expectations: 1st shift: Monday thru Friday 8:00am-4:30pm with variability
