Job Description
Position Summary
The MT Specialist assists the Assistant Section Manager and Manager with the overall management of his/her subdivision. The MT Specialist provides technical expertise and leadership to troubleshoot testing, equipment, and quality control issues.
As a MT Specialist, you will:
- Prioritize workload within subdivision to maximize the efficiency of personnel and supplies. Serves as lead worker.
- Prepare specimens as required for laboratory testing and provides leadership into problem specimen issues.
- Review data and assure quality control procedures are performed for respective subdivision.
- Responsible for managing routine technical problems. Notify assistant section manager, section manager and pathologist when unusual problems develop.
- Assist in the evaluation of personnel performance for staff. Aid in the development of new procedures and other special projects, as required.
- Perform routine bench work when workload warrants. In absence of on-site supervisor, may function as technologist in charge of the laboratory.
- Responsible for enforcing hospital and departmental policies including personnel counseling when indicated. Maintain and order adequate supplies to accommodate subdivision testing.
- Maintain effective communications with assistant section manager/section manager concerning subdivision.
- Assist assistant section manager/section manager in maintaining an up-to-date procedure manual to comply with CAP requirements as indicated.
- Coordinate new QC lot number verification. Coordinate instrument maintenance/calibration performance and documentation.
- Help in the coordination and performance of CAP proficiency surveys.
- Recommend and help coordinate additional training required by staff. Identify learning opportunities for the subdivision.
Minimum Requirements
- BS degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Lab Science from an accredited college or university OR equivalent education and experience as defined by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
- Certification as MLS, BB, C, H or MB by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.
- Three years bench experience as medical technologist (medical lab scientist) with demonstrated supervisory capabilities.

- 40 hours per week
- Monday - Friday (7 am - 3 pm)
