Job Description

Position Summary

Provides direct patient care on assigned units, member of interdisciplinary treatment team, attends to spiritual/emotional needs of patients, families, & staff. Takes in-house on-call responsibility in rotation on weekdays and weekends. Responds to all all deaths, codes, critical events, and traumas; attends to ordered screens and consults and to referrals. Responds to requests for consultations on healthcare ethics and advance directives. Provides televised Sunday worship and additional special service leadership in rotation. Serves as preceptor for CPE students.

Responsibilities

1. Provides pastoral care to patients and families with a variety of ages, religious traditions and cultural backgrounds by assessing for spiritual and emotional distress, developing a plan of care and implementing appropriate pastoral interventions, with primary emphasis in an identified service line.
2. Provides pastoral care and pastoral care education to staff through assessment and pastoral intervention in addition to support for staff during/after critical incidents.
3. Serves as consultant on religious/spiritual/faith beliefs of patients and families which impact participation in health care, with primary emphasis in an identified service line.
5. Works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team with respect to patient's plan of care. Participates in rounds, team meetings, family meetings and unit meetings.
4. Provides pastoral care and support hospital-wide while on-call, responding to all deaths, codes, critical events, and traumas; attends to ordered screens and consults and to referrals from individual units and requests from community.
6. Documents all ministry in Electronic Health Record and on departmental logs and forms.
7. Is conversant with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Powepoint) and has ability to learn and use email and calendaring programs in addition to Electronic Health Record.
8. Collaborates with CPE Supervisors to orient, teach, observe, mentor and coach Chaplain CPE Residents and Chaplain CPE Interns.
9. Demonstrates acceptable levels of community leadership and participation
10. Maintains professional development requirements of ecclesiastical authority and professional certifying body

Minimum Requirements

College Degree plus other schooling

Master of Divinity or equivalent required for full time position is required.

Minimum of four units of ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education

Board Certification or eligible for Board Certification with Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, National Association of Jewish Chaplains or equivalent within two years of hire.

1 to 3 years related work experience is required.
