Job Description

Position Summary

The Telecommunicator receives, prioritizes, and dispatches appropriate personnel to calls for service, for both emergency and non-emergency calls. This position must monitor, operate and assist in maintaining all electronic equipment.

As a Telecommunicator, you will:

  • Receive and dispatch routine and emergency calls and personal requests for assistance.
  • Monitor, operate, and assist in maintaining all electronic equipment.
  • Communicate with other law enforcement agencies.
  • Routinely make quick, informed decisions which effect the safety of both officers and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School or equivalent - or higher
  • Must maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license
  • Before the end of 10 months, the Telecommunicator is expected to receive his/her Telecommunications Certification from the N.C. Justice Academy.
  • Before the end of the first 10 months, he/she is expected to be certified to operate the DCI terminal.
  • Before the Telecommunicator is released from training, he/she will have to be certified to operate the department's Computerized Incident Reporting System.
  • 1 year or less experience with computer driven systems/equipment. Preference to have law enforcement / security equipment related experience.

Pay Range

$18.38 - $26.79

Other Information

  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday (5:45 pm - 5:45 am)
  • Required to work rotational weekends
