Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Academic Affairs, led by the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, comprises the university’s colleges, schools and libraries, along with other academic support and administrative units. Academic Affairs works collaboratively to strengthen ECU’s culture of academic excellence in line with our mission to be a national model for student success, public service and regional transformation.

Research, Economic Development and Engagement (REDE), led by the Senior Vice Provost for Research and Innovation, provides strategic leadership for East Carolina University’s research, innovation, economic development, and community engagement enterprise. REDE advances discovery, workforce development, and societal impact through research administration and development, industry engagement, technology transfer and commercialization, economic development initiatives, community-engaged partnerships, continuing education, and collaborations with federal agencies and national security partners. REDE also oversees research integrity, compliance, and responsible research practices.

The Office of Engagement and Strategic Partnerships builds strategic partnerships with industry, government, nonprofit, and community organizations to expand research, workforce, and innovation opportunities. The office supports collaboration, sponsored projects, economic development, and external engagement initiatives that advance university priorities and regional impact. It serves as a primary gateway for external partnership development.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position provides one-on-one management counseling and advisory services to owners and management teams of small and mid-sized businesses. Reporting to the Director of Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC), this position is responsible for effective delivery of advisory services, requiring significant analysis of a business’ current situation including but not limited to financial, market, operations, and strategic business plans. The position is charged with identifying issues, interpreting complex data and information, communicating trends and possible outcomes, organizing and evaluating research, planning and designing data collection. Based on research and analysis, this position is expected to prepare and deliver recommendations and assist the client in critical decision making with respect to business goals and objectives. Delivery of advisory services requires use of broad discretion and professional judgment in formulating and communicating recommendations.

Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Master’s Degree in business administration or other related field. Three years of relevant work experience.
