The Department of Sociology currently has 13 full-time faculty members and offers Bachelor of Science in Applied Sociology and a Master’s in Sociology. We also offer minors in Sociology, Medical Sociology, Crime, Law & Deviance, and Gender Studies, and contribute to numerous interdisciplinary programs on campus. Faculty and students participate actively in professional organizations, such as the American Sociological Association and the Southern Sociological Society. | Primary Purpose of Position | This position serves as the lead administrative support personnel in the unit. This position is essential to supporting the department chair in carrying out the business operations of the unit. This includes budget management, engaging in efforts to maximize enrollment and managing student records, navigating university technology systems, and serving as the policy expert for the unit. This position has frequent contact with offices outside of the unit, including the college office, units within the divisions of Academic Affairs, Administration & Finance, Student Affairs, and the Office of Research, Economic Development and Engagement. This position must exercise independent judgement and use discretion and confidentiality, when appropriate. |
| Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience | High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |

| Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience | Prefer knowledge of university processes and procedures, web page maintenance, and technology (hardware and software). Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Degree Works, Banner, Emburse, PORT, ecuBIC, and PirateTime is preferred. Experience gained through working in an office is also preferred. |
