Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Surgery is a multi-faceted organization in a complex organizational structure. It is a department within the School of Medicine with the attendant responsibility for patient care, medical education and research. The Chair of the department is also the Chief of Surgical services for the hospital and, as such, has a broad range of activities including administration of the OR; allocation of scarce OR resources; adequacy of surgical beds; and credentialing of hospital surgical staff. The department includes full-time faculty members in the sections of: general & bariatric surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, surgical oncology, transplant surgery, trauma & acute care surgery. The department faculty provide surgical care to the people of eastern North Carolina, including pre-operative and post-operative care. The department provides surgical education to medical students and residents every day of the year. The department also has a vibrant research program including funded grants and clinical trials. The employees in the department support the clinical, education and research work of the department. To accomplish these tasks requires a highly competent, appropriately classified, and an adequately paid staff.
Job Duties
Brody School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology is seeking to fill a full-time Administrative Support Associate position. Employee will assist with administrative duties associated with a growing and progressive division in both clinical and academic medicine by providing administrative support to the Division Chief and other Division faculty members.

Duties include but are not limited to: maintaining faculty members’ calendars and coordinating scheduling of appointments, meetings, lunches, teaching, conferences, and travel arrangements according to department and ECU protocols; coordination of multiple cancer conferences; assisting with clinical schedules and specialty accreditations; providing administrative support for surgical oncology clinical trials and grants by assisting with submission, preparing reports and tracking ongoing projects as needed by division, and managing division social media account.
Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Administrative support experience in a clinical or academic setting.
