| Organizational Unit Overview | The East Carolina Community School involves cross campus collaboration to provide the students a spectrum of support and services to comprehensively address their academic, social-emotional, physical, and family/community needs. The school includes Kindergarten through 5th grade. The community school involves an integrated partnership with Pitt County Schools and will be housed within a local elementary school. |
| Job Duties | This is an open employment posting for University Community School Classroom Teacher positions for the 2026-2027 school year. The College of Education will review applications regularly in order to fill vacancies which may occur during the school year. These positions are eleven-month, full time, stated definite term, exempt professional staff (EPS) appointments in the College of Education and report to the ECU Community School principal. As an educator within the East Carolina University School, the teacher will cultivate a culture of innovation that supports effective instructional practices/strategies to promote student academic and personal success for all students in the school. The Teacher will work collaboratively with others to facilitate and implement innovative instruction to achieve the mission of the school. The teacher will work collaboratively with the ECU Community School Principal and university faculty/staff to support the successful social-emotional, physical, and academic development of the students within the community school. | Minimum Education/Experience | Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field; demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills; and evidence of skill working with at risk student populations. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
| License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation | NC Teaching Licensure in elementary (K-6) or related field or be eligible to obtain one. |
| Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education | Preference will be given to candidates who have 3 years teaching experience in innovative schools with a track record of improving student outcomes for all subgroups. Teaching experience with student groups is preferred. Graduates of East Carolina University teacher education programs are preferred. Additional preferred qualities would include the following: knowledge of public school and university partnerships; experience as a school-level mentor or clinical teacher. Demonstrated experience performing in a self-directed capacity; organized with attention to detail; innovation and outcome oriented; technologically proficient across multiple platforms; possess strong interpersonal relationship skills including collaboration with individuals; highly motivated and be willing to be receptive to innovative practices/procedures; willing to take the initiative to learn the duties/responsibilities/expectations of the work and operations of the community school; and willing to work alone or as a group/team when necessary. |
