Job Summary

The City of Greenville's Recreation and Parks Department is seeking a part-time Community Outreach Coordinator to assist with planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing community outreach initiatives, recreation programs, athletics, special events, and engagement activities throughout the community. This position is responsible for supporting outreach programming, building relationships with residents and community partners, and supervising outreach volunteers and part-time staff during programs and events. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Minimum Age: 18 years old, at the time of application
Pay Rate: $20 per hour
Schedule: approximately 8-20 hours per week, depending on programming and event schedules. Must have flexibility to include weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Requirements:

  • Experience working with teams, community programs, recreation programming, outreach initiatives, or public engagement activities;
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
  • Must possess a valid driver's license;
  • Experience in recreation, community engagement, event coordination, volunteer management, youth programming, nonprofit work, or related field preferred;
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred (required 60 days after hire);
  • High school diploma or GED preferred;
  • Previous leadership or experience coordinating programs, staffing, volunteers, and schedules preferred.

Examples of Duties

  • Coordinate and support community outreach programs, special events, and recreation activities throughout the city;
  • Assist with the operation of the Rec-N-Roll Mobilized Recreation Unit and related outreach activities;
  • Direct, schedule, train, and monitor outreach volunteers and part-time staff during programs, events, and community activities;
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community members, neighborhood groups, local organizations, and partner agencies;
  • Assist with marketing and promoting community outreach programs through community engagement efforts, social media, and outreach initiatives;
  • Maintain records related to attendance, participation, outreach efforts, volunteer hours, and program evaluations;
  • Assist in maintaining order and enforcing departmental policies and procedures during programs and events;
  • Administer basic first aid for minor injuries when necessary;
  • Perform light maintenance, setup, cleanup, and housekeeping duties to maintain a safe and clean program environment;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
