Job Summary

This position oversees and supervises the operation of the River Birch Tennis Center, plans and implements year-round tennis programming, and maintains courts at other various parks. This position also performs professional and supervisory duties such as planning and implementing programs, training and managing part-time staff, working with user groups, and providing customer service to the public.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Examples of Duties

  • Plan and implement programs, create work and league schedules;
  • Teach individual and group tennis lessons;
  • Assist the public with registration, inquiries, reservations, and departmental information;
  • Supervise programs, classes, activities, and leagues;
  • Promote programs and activities through publications, presentations, and other marketing material;
  • Manage overall facility operations, including opening/closing center and coordinating activities;
  • Requisition of supplies and equipment necessary to operate various activities and programs, investigate accidents and incidents, report damages and losses;
  • Weekly and monthly reports/inspections and entering service requests;
  • Prepare and maintain reservations/attendance records and reports, employee timesheets, accident/incident reports, and other documentation;
  • Assist with budget preparation for programs and the facility; Collect fees and payments;
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate part-time staff;
  • Work collaboratively with other employees, departments, and outside organizations to implement a variety of activities;
  • Attend professional development trainings and meetings;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in recreation administration or closely related field; and
  • Three (3) to five years (5) of verifiable, professional tennis teaching experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:
  • principles, practices, and techniques of recreation administration;
  • current tennis industry standards and best practices;
  • policies and regulations affecting the operation of a tennis center;
  • tennis rules, regulations, and applications;
  • First aid, CPR, and AED techniques.
  • fiscal procedures and practices.

Skilled in:
  • using athletic tools and equipment;
  • facility management techniques;
  • using office equipment, including computers and related software;
  • effectively communicating and motivating others;
  • time management and organization;
  • leading staff

Ability to:
  • plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate facility operations and programs;
  • create league schedules;
  • participate in outreach and adaptive programs;
  • able to start new programs and grow existing program;
  • train, supervise, and evaluate part-time employees;
  • effectively use technology within the workplace;
  • communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • follow verbal and written instructions;

  • perform work requiring good physical and mental condition;
  • ability to create fun and informative tennis sessions for kids and adults;
  • ability to perform light maintenance such as power washing, blowing and/roll-drying courts, replacing nets and windscreens;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, outside organizations, and the public.

Special Requirements

  • Must possess a USPTA Level II or a Level II PTR Professional certification.
  • Must have (or obtain within 90 days of hire) and maintain valid First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications.
  • Valid driver's license issued by N.C. or another state and acceptable driving record.
  • College tennis playing background (preferred).
