Job Summary
The City of Greenville is looking for a Staff Support Specialist III to provide administrative support to the Police department. The position will be responsible for coordinating secretarial/clerical operations and performing various administrative activities.

- Operates a computer and a variety of office equipment incidental to administrative support duties;
- Creates and maintains filing system;
- Accesses records through a computer system and follows up with proper personnel and/or supervisor;
- Responds to sensitive requests for information and assistance;
- Composes, types, updates, and distributes correspondence on behalf of the Bureau Commander and other personnel;
- Answers phone and responds to inquiries and direct calls to the appropriate personnel;
- Maintains and distributes office supplies; monitors supplies and equipment inventory and makes purchases as required;
- Maintains and updates records of expenditures; reconciles monthly credit card statements for assigned personnel;
- Maintains, updates, and distributes rosters, schedules, and various lists;
- Coordinates logistics for transfers within the Police Department;
- Prepares work requests, as well as IT and telephone requests, and follows up as needed;
- Coordinates daily time and payroll recordkeeping for the Police Department;
- Completes Personnel Action Forms for the Police Department;
- Completes payroll for the appropriate Bureau;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED (Associate's degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related field preferred); AND
- Three years of secretarial and administrative experience.
Knowledge of:- office practices and procedures;
- format and organization of letters, reports, and other business correspondence;
- vocabulary, English, spelling, and arithmetic.
- the operation of assigned office equipment, including computer equipment and various software packages.
- understand and follow oral and written instructions;
- communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
- read and compare words and numbers carefully and accurately;
- maintain clerical records and to compile reports from such records;
- type accurately at an average rate of speed;
- record and transcribe meeting minutes;
- establish and maintain good working relationships with other employees and the general public.
Special Requirements

- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
- Notary Public is highly preferred but not required. Must obtain a notary within six (6) months of employment.
- Must currently possess a valid driver's license issued by N.C. (Note: A valid driver's license is a current driver's license that is not revoked, suspended, or subject to limited restoration or conditional operation privileges).
- Eligible candidates must submit to an interview process, background checks, and drug screen.
- Candidates who do not successfully complete the selection process are eligible to reapply for other City job vacancies.
- The selection process typically is completed within one to three months.
