Job Summary
-
This position supervises the operation of the city’s Sports Complex, as well as plans and implements year-round tournaments, events, and programming, while reporting to a Recreation Manager. This position also performs professional and supervisory duties such as planning and implementing programs, training and managing part-time staff, working with user groups, and providing customer service to the public.
FLSA: Non-Exempt Examples of Duties

- Supervises the day-to-day operation of the Sports Complex, an outdoor athletic facility which includes outdoor baseball, softball, multipurpose fields, admissions, parking, staff and field scheduling, payroll and inventory control
- Assist with working with the Convention & Visitors Bureau and other agencies to market the facility as a destination and recruit events, while monitoring customer satisfaction of the complex
- Balances transactions and contractual revenues
- Maintains relationships with outside vendors
- Serves as the initial point of contact for the sports complex
- Works alongside the Recreation Manager to oversee the rental of the complex and communicates the specific details with maintenance staff
- Coordinates with various sports leagues to plan and schedule practices, games, clinics, camps and tournaments
- Assist the public with inquiries, reservations and departmental information
- Supervise programs, events, activities and tournaments
- Assists with the promotion of programs, events and tournaments through publications, presentations, and other marketing material
- Supervise overall facility operations, including opening/closing, and coordinating use of the facility
- Investigate accidents and incidents, report damages and losses
- Weekly and monthly reports/inspections and entering service request
- Prepare and maintain reservations/attendance records and reports, employee timesheets, accident/incident reports, and other documentation
- Assist with budget preparation for the facility; collect fees and payments daily
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate part-time staff
- Assist manager with collaboration of other employees, departments, and outside organizations to implement a variety of facility use
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
-
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation administration or a closely related field; AND
- Three to five years of related professional experience in a recreational setting.
- Experience marketing and promoting facilities to attract visitors and/ tournament play
- Experience operating a multipurpose sports facility or similar facility that draws visitors from across the state and beyond for organized sporting events
- Background in facility management
- Certified Parks & Recreation Professional preferred
Knowledge of:- Principles, practices, and techniques of a municipal sports complex including recruitment and execution of amateur baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse and special events
- Athletic facility and field maintenance standards

Special Requirements

- Must currently possess a valid driver's license (Note: A valid driver's license is a current driver's license that is not revoked, suspended, or subject to limited restoration or conditional operation privileges).
- Must possess (or obtain within 90 days of hire) and maintain valid Red Cross First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications;
- Requires working a varied schedule to include nights and weekends, and some holidays.
