The Maintenance Engineer, under limited supervision, assists the Maintenance Manager & Reliability Engineering in providing maintenance support and project management services for Avient Protective Materials. Works within a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to analyze equipment performance, spare parts requirements and looking for areas of improvement to ensure equipment and operational function is reliable.

The Maintenance Engineer will operate within the organizational structure to support the Maintenance group & Reliability Engineering. The person in this role will interact will the project & process engineers, production staff, and maintenance staff. Utilizing equipment CMMS & Root Cause Analysis data, role will initiate reliable solutions to include performing change leader duties and identifying spare requirements. Recommend and adjust spare parts inventory requirements as required due to plant expansion, changes in turnaround time for repairs, and equipment reliability from “as delivered” through “as maintained” to “as used”.

Essential Functions

  • Show behavior in line with the SHE and Security risks and agreed controls, including being compliant to Avient requirements, rules, and procedures.
  • Assures that all employees follow established occupational safety rules, housekeeping, Hazmat regulations, JSAs and SOPs.
  • Address and report person(s) behaving in a SHE and Security irresponsible manner and document observed risks.
  • Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a “need to know” only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.
  • Lead root cause analysis on equipment failures leading to lost machine availability or excessive cost.
  • Be able to engineer solutions to repetitive equipment failure, high-cost maintenance activities, or incidents of high frequency part replacements.
  • Maintains predictive equipment programs to include report review and creation of corrective action(s).
  • Monitors and analyze CMMS data to identify repetitive problems.
  • Assist the Reliability Engineer in implementing the Reliability program(s) for Avient Protective Materials.
  • Lead Planned Preventive Maintenance program to ensure preventive maintenance plans are effective and cost effective for equipment reliability and optimization.
  • Comply with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOP’s, and other related documents and activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • New grad with BS degree in Engineering, with some preferable experience or AS with 5 years of relevant experience or 10 years of Industrial Maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of reliability role within an industrial organization.
  • Skilled in maintenance support, with demonstrated ability to provide troubleshooting and resolution to problems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Word.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and use for tasks, meetings, and other organizational tools.
  • Understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management System software and how to utilize for Total Process Reliability
  • Very skilled in use of PC and able to learn new software quickly.
  • Able to analyze data and identify trends.
  • Good Communication Skills and able to work in a Team Atmosphere

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and/or hear. Occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc.
  • Typically work is in a manufacturing environment where noise level is loud.
  • Proper personal safety equipment needs to be used while performing this job and that equipment is dictated by the plant safety guidelines.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, and risk of electric shock, vibration, non-hazardous chemical agents and outside weather conditions.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Sr. Process Engineer

  • Develops, designs, and communicates manufacturing processes.
  • Monitors and revises processes to help generate cost savings and improve the quality and efficiency of product/process.
  • Participates in design reviews to improve the ability to manufacture products.
  • Responsible for the activities related to the development of new processes including researching current and emerging technologies, evaluating process cost, quality, and performing process characterization and optimization studies using designed experiments, problem-solving and decision making tools.
  • Identifies and solves issues or problems with equipment/process. Troubleshoots possible causes and coordinates the activities of maintenance, production and other available resources to implement cost effective solutions.
  • Provides coordination of new process installation and process changes.
  • Other projects/duties as assigned.
