Shift Schedule: 4 10-Hour Shifts

The Maintenance Mechanic E/I maintains production equipment for the Avient Protective Materials site. Perform repairs, calibrations and preventive/predictive maintenance work at a proficient level to minimize production downtime while maintaining excellent safety, human relations, and environmental standards.

Essential Functions

  • Show behavior in line with the SHE and Security risks and agreed controls, including being compliant to Avient requirements, rules, and procedures.
  • Assures that all employees follow established occupational safety rules, housekeeping, Hazmat regulations, JSAs and SOPs.
  • Address and report person(s) behaving in a SHE and Security irresponsible manner and document observed risks.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in a safe and effective manner and all applicable procedures and policies are followed. Take action to correct unsafe acts, systems, and procedures.
  • Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a “need to know” only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.
  • Perform repairs and preventive/predictive maintenance on equipment from written instructions, sketches, plans, diagrams, oral descriptions, or self-determined job requirements based on observed conditions.
  • Troubleshoot operational problems from field devices all the way to DCS I/O to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Document conditions, actions, procedures and results of work, tests or inspections performed as required by Company policies and procedures.
  • Document work performed on production equipment by maintaining accurate records or logs.
  • Comply with all departmental work instructions, safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Maintain and upgrade technical and non-technical skills through participation in company and outside training programs. Assist with the training of other employees as directed.
  • Maintain and repair, as necessary, equipment/components/calibrations associated with Dyneema® production facilities.
  • It is the responsibility of each employee to work in a safe and responsible manner to create an injury-free and incident-free workplace.
  • Comply with all job-related safety and other training requirements.
  • Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing DYNPRO SHE DYN 653 and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Authorities

  • Authorized to approve work permits per details included in DYNPRO SHE DYN 026. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities.

    This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville, NC) work site. Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes. Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter. Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes. Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree directly related to the position (e.g., Electronics/Electrical, Instrumentation Technology, Engineering, Refrigeration, HVAC, Welding/Metal Fabrication, or other applicable technical degree) PLUS four years industrial maintenance experience in the appropriate disciplines (e.g., Instrumentation, Electronics, Industrial Electrical, Refrigeration, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing/Pipe Fitting, Welding, Production Machine Maintenance, High Pressure Boilers, Pure Water Systems, Utility Systems, Repair and Overhaul, etc.); OR HS diploma with six years of industrial maintenance experience in appropriate disciplines (e.g., Instrumentation, Electronics, Industrial Electrical, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing/Pipe Fitting, Welding, Production Machine Maintenance, High Pressure Boilers, Pure Water Systems, Utility Systems, Repair and Overhaul, etc.)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Scheduling using a maintenance management system
  • Ability to coordinate multiple jobs at one time
  • General knowledge of N.C. building codes, engineering specifications, OSHA and safety procedures, NFPA, NEC, etc.
  • Working knowledge of a minimum of two area specific maintenance craft skills (Electrical - Instrumentation, Piping - Mechanical, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings (preferred CADD operator experience)
  • Ability to develop sketches or field orders from field observations
  • Ability to analyze maintenance problems and develop corrective actions in a timely manner
  • Ability to work with and lead outside vendors and contractors to perform maintenance task
  • Ability to manage small construction projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Completes projects with minimal guidance showing a proactive attitude to design and installations.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical devices in operation. Dismantles and examines devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs input/output devices using PLC systems.
  • Troubleshoots, completes, designs, upgrades and installs electrical equipment, circuits and systems.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs/replace electrical components at the component level.
  • Sets up and operates shop machinery such as lathe, drill press, grinders, band saws, cutting torch, welder. etc. Uses hand tools and pneumatic tools to modify or repair parts and equipment.
  • Installs new or repairs/modify hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as needed.
  • Improves reliability and uptime of all equipment. Takes a proactive approach to equipment issues with a preventive maintenance mentality.
  • Operates the cooling water and waste water system in compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Operates forklift and hydraulic working platform as needed.
  • Researches supplies, parts and machines needed to complete work orders.
  • Assists in organizing and maintaining an accurate inventory of parts.
  • Performs and documents work orders and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Documents work completed. Contributes to upkeep and updating of required paperwork such as records, maintenance logs, documents, manuals, drawings, PM logs, etc.
  • Supports the vision, mission and guiding principles of the company.
  • Follows applicable ISO, Safety, Health and Environmental rules and guidelines while performing any procedure.
  • Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.
  • As needed, covers for Maintenance Supervisor when Supervisor is not present.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical/Environ. Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and/or hear, and taste or smell.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and occasionally handle up to 250 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with the exception of high noise areas. Proper safety personnel equipment needs to be used while performing this job and that equipment is dictated by the plant Safety guidelines.
  • Occasionally works in heights exceeding 30 feet.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, risk of electric shock, vibration, non-hazardous chemical agents, and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
